Tax Department grants additional extensions for flood-harmed businesses
SANTA FE ─ The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department has granted additional filing and payment extensions for businesses harmed by flooding this month.
These extensions are in addition to new deadlines that the department authorized on Oct. 5 for taxpayers affected by flooding that began in September.
The department is waiving penalty and interest on both extended tax deadlines.
“After the destructive flooding New Mexico has experienced, many residents need time to rebuild and recover. These filing extensions are intended to ensure taxpayers affected by flooding have the time they need to focus on that recovery without the added pressure of meeting regular tax deadlines,” said Taxation and Revenue Secretary Stephanie Schardin Clarke.
Taxpayers affected by flooding in October can apply for extensions for the following tax programs:
Gross receipts taxes, compensating taxes, withholding taxes, oil and gas taxes, combined fuel taxes and other excise taxes
New due date: Jan. 25, 2027
Original due dates: Oct. 26, Nov. 25 and Dec. 28, 2026
Taxpayers can request extensions by submitting form TRD-41432, Disaster Relief Extension Notification, to the department via email or mail. Taxpayers can request extensions before filing or after receiving a notice for late payment penalties and interest.
Taxpayers can also request longer extensions by submitting Form RPD-41096, Extension of Time to File.
Both forms can be found online at www.tax.newmexico.gov, under the Forms and Publications page, subfolder “Extensions.”
Taxpayers can email completed forms to tax.extension@tax.nm.gov or mail forms to P.O. Box 630, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87504-0630.
For more information on disaster relief extensions, including details on the September flooding extensions, see department bulletins 100.49 and 100.43, found online at www.tax.newmexico.gov, under the Forms and Publications page, subfolder “Publications” then “Bulletins.”
