Liquor Licenses
If you plan to serve or sell alcohol in your business, you must obtain a liquor license. The process for obtaining a license is fairly complicated. We recommend that you read the linked materials that apply to your liquor license type and call the Alcohol and Gaming Division (AGD) at (505) 476-4875 to reach a customer service representative, who will assist you in completing the process.
Dispenser License:
If you intend to sell beer, wine and spirits in a restaurant, hotel, bar, grocery store, convenience store, pharmacy or package liquor store, you will need to obtain a Dispenser License. New Mexico has a limited number of these licenses available. Dispenser Licenses are bought and sold, transferred to new locations, or leased, with the prior approval of the Alcohol and Gaming Division.
Exception to Dispenser License:
If you plan to sell only wine and beer in your restaurant, you only need a restaurant license and NOT a Dispenser License.

Alcohol Server Permits:
Everyone who sells or serves alcohol in the state of New Mexico is required to obtain a permit by taking a New Mexico approved Alcohol Server Education class. This includes all Bartenders, Waiters, Managers, Liquor License Owners, Convenience or Grocery Store Clerks, and the Designated Resident Agent for the License.
If the business model involves another type of alcohol sales and service, contact an AGA customer service representative at (505) 476-4875 for assistance on which license type should be used.
